Regarding yyour great-grandmother, who was "born Feb. 22, 1878, in Tennessee, and came to Texas as a small child, settling near Waco," there were three men with the last name of Estelle (two brothers, and the son of one of them) who settled in Harrison, Texas, about that time. Harrison is just over the Brazos River, a few miles east of Waco. I will have to find my notes to be certain of the names of all three, but I know that one was named Sidney Green Estelle. Some descendants of the Estelle family still live in Harrison, Texas. One member of this branch of Estelle family was Vivienne Malone-Mayes. She was the 13th black woman in the United States to receive the Ph.D. degree in mathematics, and the first African-American professor at Baylor University. She was interviewed by the Oral History Department at Baylor, and the interview includes family history. I have been doing research on the history of Harrison, Texas, and since the Estelles were one of the prominent early families in that small rural community, I have been trying to find any Estelles in Tennessee, but have not found them in the 1860 or 1870 census. Let me know if you would like me to send you more info. Notify Administrator about this message?
