James Brieger's book Hometown,Mississippi gives the following information about the community of Estill. "Located four miles south of Arcola on the west bank of Deer Creek, Estill was settled about 1870. James H. Estill established a general store and when he bought Florida Plantation from the William F. Smith estate, the railroad was named for him. Early settlers included Dr. J. T. Atterbury, Thomas G., Samuel Barefield, Winston E. West, McKinney Cook, Alfred, Frank and W. O. Aldridge."
Wallace Estill b. ca. 1707 in New Jersey had 3 sons by 1st wife Marcia Boude:
1. Boude, d. 1810 Madison Co., Ky.;
2. Benjamin d. 1782 Washington Co., Va.
or Russell Co., Ky.; and
3. John who d. 1781 Augusta Co., Va.
and 2 daughters.
Wallace married 2nd Mary Ann Campbell and had 6 sons:
1. James d. 1781 Lincoln Co., Ky.;
2. William d. 1752 in infancy;
3. Samuel d. 1837 in Roane Co., Tn.;
4. Wallace Jr. d. 1835 Franklin Co, Tn.
or Roane Co., Tn.;
5. William d.? Franklin Co., Tn.;
6. Isaac d. ? unknown;
and 4 daughters.
With a middle name Campbell, I think it is a good hint that he is descended from Wallace Estill. But I wonder what the H. stood for in James H. Estill for whom the community was named in Mississippi?
I will keep looking and let you know what I find.
