Phyllis, Your email bounced. Please respond.Do you have any dates for your William Estabrook?
Here's what I know so far about my Hillman family:
My relative, Francis F. Hillman (known as Fannie) came to Menominee/Stephenson in the mid to late 1800's--maybe 1860's from New Brunswick, Canada. She had a sister, Sarah Jane Hillman who married Benjamin Appleby/Applebee in 1863 in Carleton, NB and moved to Menominee/Stephenson area.I believe that Fannie and another sister, Margaret (my great grandmother) went to visit or live with them there as young girls or maybe or in their twenties. My Margaret married John Kent Hubbard, who was also from NB, in Menominee in 1878.Margaret was 30 and John was 50 yrs. old at that point. She probably knew him already since he was a cousin of Benjamin Applebee and they all came from the same area of NB, but the age difference would have meant they didn't grow up at same time.
We did not know what happened to Fannie until my husband and I visited UP Michigan two weeks ago.At the Riverside Cemetery in Menominee, in the family plot, was a stone marked Fannie Esbrook 1848-1905.No one could connect her with our family.I compared her birth date with recent information that was given me on her and her siblings and the date was right for her to be Fannie Hillman. The cemetery records showed that she had lived in Stephenson Township and her body brought to the cemetery for burial. Then I looked on a 1912 land plat map and found a W. G. Estabrook had land right next to my Hubbards and Applebys in Stephenson. When I looked in the Menominee, MI marriage records, I found a William G. Esbrook married a Francis T. Hilman 12 Nov. 1888! That would have meant she was about 40 yrs. old when they married. According to the 1910 Stephenson, Menominee Co., MI census, William was widowed and in his 60's.He was living alone with a housekeeper and servant.
Does any of this information fit with your William or his son Willie?Do the dates fit at all? I think Fannie was probably a second wife, as she was 40 wen they married.
Any information would be appreciated that might shed light on them.
Jane
