Thanks for your interesting message John. I am sure there must be a connection between all the variations of the name. There seem to be so many Essam, Essom, Easom and Eassom families still in the Northants area. A cousin of mine visited Holland a few years ago and was told that Essom was a Dutch name and I have also found that there is a town/city in Senegal called Essom (both the Dutch and the French settled in Senegal at various points in history). Others feel the name may have Scandinavian origins. I have also come across the name Essom used as a first name by someone in the USA. Wonder if anyone out there can enlighten us some more.
Regards
Jackie Essom, Melton Mowbray, Leics.
