As I investigate this family in more detail, I am more and more confused. First of all, the information I gave you came from the 1870 census, and shows Juanita, daughter of Miguel Esquibel and wife Soledad Reyes, and family living at La Cueva, near Mora (precint 5, page 333). Miguel is listed at age 35 and Soledad as age 28, Juanita as age 2,and brothers Tomas, Nicolas and Juan as ages 4, 5, and 7 respectively. This would imply that Miguel was born about 1835 and Soledad about 1842. I have come across a baptismal record for Nicolas Esquibel dated Dec 6, 1860 where the parents are listed as Miguel Esquibel and Soledad Ruiz, vecinos de La Cebolla (south of Mora by about 5 miles).

I have also come across a marriage record for Miguel Antonio Esquibel and Maria Soledad Ruiz on June 21, 1841 in Taos! Could these be the same people or just a coincidence of similar names. Or is there an error in the records. I still am looking for a baptismal for Juanita Esquibel or for any record of (Maria) Soledad Reyes.

Note: I did not find Miquel Esquibel in the New Mexico in the 1880 census. Is it possible that they had moved to Trinidad by then?

I hope this helps. Keep in touch.
