Hi Tony,
I just noticed your message to Julie and thought I would write to you. Do you descend from James Esplin & Agnes Donaldson? If so, we must be cousins of some sort or another as I descend from their daughter Isobel who married Thomas Williamson. In regards to your question about James' birth I recieved some information from Julie a while ago and it showed that the James Esplin born in 1758 actually died in his twenties by falling out of a tree (if I remember correctly), so he couldn't be the James who married Agnes Donaldson. We do in fact, as Julie had on her message, descend from Henry Esplin & Janet Webster who had a son James in 1747. Henry was the second son of James Esplin & Jean Allan and younger brother of James who married Jean Brewster.

I have copied and pasted a piece that Julie sent me from the monumental inscriptions which shows the two James' I have refered to. I hope this helps and it would be great to make contact if we are related. Best wishes, Fraser.

"Here lys James Esplen sometime one of the gardeners at Panmurie. He died 9 May 1783 by a fall from a tree, age 25 whose death was dearly lamented. (born 1758)
Here lys James Esplen, his father sometime kirk & ground officer at Guthrie died 16 Feb 1793 age 73 (born 1720/1)"
