My research on the Esparzas is in the 1600's, with only a few exceptions which extend into the early 1700s. I am putting together a book on the founding families in Aguas.(based on parish records), but, again, I'm really only including the early families.

I will say this, however, the name Ruis de Esparza definitely appears to be associated with the founding families in the area. The patriarch of this family was Lope Ruis de Esparza who arrived in Mexico in 1593 from Pamplona, Spain. The Ruis de Esparza surname spread througout the area near Aguascalientes, including nearby towns such as Sierra de Pinos, Nochistlan and Jalpa in Zacatecas. The surname Alvarado is prominent in this area, too, as well as in neighboring Jalisco.

I wish I could tell you something more concrete about your grandparents. Have you checked the parish records of the area through the Mormon Church Family History Centers? It's a great start. Good luck!
