I am also researching RUIZ DE ESPARZA as I descend from Lope Ruiz de Esparza & Francisca Gabadi. He appears to have been an important patriarch in Aguascalientes & the first Ruiz de Esparza in the area. He began quite a descendancy. I, like Jose Luis Vazquez (who has posted comments on the Mexico Forum), am collecting documentation for a book on this and other founding families of Aguascalientes (e.g. Tiscareño, Romo de Vivar, Macias Valadez, who are all tied into the Ruiz de Esparza lines). I have extracted all the Spanish baptisms, marriages & burials in the opening parish records (1616-1660) and am continuing through to the end of the 1600s. I am collating the information into family group sheets in hopes of"putting it all together" by next year. (Wishful thinking?) A couple of additional notes on Lope & his life: 1. According to the ship's passenger lists, Lope, son of Lope Ruiz de Esparza & Ana Dias de Eguino, crossed the Atlantic on Feb. 8, 1593, bound for Mexico, as a bachelor & servant of Enrique Maleon. 2. Lope's boss, "Don Enrique de Manleon, was also a bachelor, son of Don Miguel de Navarra y Manleon (not a typo) & Doña María Magdalena de Goñi. 3. Per a fellow genealogist, Dr. Jose Helguera, also descended from Lope: Dr. Helguera's friend, historian/author Mariano Gonzalez-Leal, gave him info he had retrieved from heraldic records in Spain, and lists Lope's ancestors as follows. a. Lope's father, Lope Ruiz de Esparza (Sr.), was born c. 1545 in Pamplona and married María Díaz de Eguino. b. Lope Sr.'s parents were Martin Ruiz de Esparza, born c. 1510, and Maria de Espinosa. c. Martin's parents were Simon Ruiz de Esparza & Graciana de Vici, both born c. 1495. Any information you all may have would be greatly appreciated. Likewise, if I can help in any way, please contact me. Connie Garcia Dominguez
