Esling Family Genealogy Forum
My ancestor, Andre' Fonde', came to America from France (We believe it was from Paris.) on an unknown date in the late 1700s. Records from Christ Church, Philadelphia, PA, (which later changed its name to St. Peter;s Episcopal Church) show that he married Sarah Esling in 1794 (in October, I believe). We believe that she was about age 30 shen she married Andre', so she may have been married before previously. She and Andre' had several children, one of whom is the ancestor of all of the subsequent Fonde line. Andre' and Sarah died in New Orleans of cholera on the same day in 1833. Andre's name was frequently misspelled as Andrew and/or Fondy (presumably in the effort to anglicize his name). One volume of the Filby and Myers series about immigration indlcates that a Johannes Esling and a few others by that surname arrived in Philadelphia about 1741 on the ship Loyal Judith. Many Germanic immigrants arrived and settled in Pennsylvania (the well-known "Pennsylvania Dutch", which probably should be "Pennsylvania Deutsch"). This is all the information we have about Sarah.
Is this information useful, or does it only add more confusion? I would appreciate receiving any other data about Sarah Esling, her family, or her place and date of birth.
David Fonde, one of the great-great-great grandsons of Andre' and Sarah.
