I thought I would get in on this discussion. I am an Australian Esler, my great grandfather William is mentioned in the book by Geoff Esler, although he incorrectly states that he was a brother of John Esler who arrived in Victoria in 1854. My William arrived in 1863, his brother George & sister Jane arrived in 1864 & their mother Jane (nee McCulloch) arrived in 1866 with the rest of the family- John 14, Mary 12, Frances 10, Samuel 8 & Margaret 6. Their father Andrew arrived in 1860 & his parents are listed as David Esler and Ann Sanderson, although I wonder if it could be Anderson as one of Andrew's sons was named John Anderson Esler.
I cannot see from the information given in the booklet from Dr Robert Esler's book where David Esler is descendant from, given the information avaiable he should not exist. The family came from Co Antrim but I have not been able to determine where in Antrim this Esler family is from. Any help would be much appreciated.
I was also intrigued with the 4 brothers going to Ireland from France- could you expand on this as I have not heard it before.
