Documentation for Freed Slaves
Posted by: Sarah Phillips (ID *****4318) Date: June 25, 2005 at 16:54:24

How was the freeing of a slave documented in the early 19th century in Cumberland County, Virginia?

I have traced my ancestor to a group of "free colored people" in Cumberland County in 1830. I think these people were former slaves freed by Henry Lipscomb.

How can I find out more information about this?

Thank you.

Sally Phillips
