Stephen,

I have found where Charles Vernon Eskridge was in the House, and Senate, also was Lieutenant Governor of Kansas but not Governor. An article on said him say's it was often suggested he be a candidate for governor, but was probably too combative to be elected.

The article also states " He was the agent of the Emproia Town Company at the founding of the town in 1857, the first county clerk of Breckenridge in Lyon County Kansas and a major figure in Kansas government and Republican politics for the remainder of the 19th Century".

The town of Eskridge Kansas was named after him.

The article also says that Emporia State Universities roots trace back to Charles Vernon Eskridge.

I was not aware that he committed sucide. Do you have a copy of his obit.

He would be related to my husband his line goes like this:
George, Samuel, John, Sidney, John, Henry Lee, my mother in law, and then my husband.

I am looking forward to reading your book.
