I am aware of the conclusion that the name "Eskridge" is derived from "Eskrigge" or something similar, and it probably is right. However, my great uncle, Wilkes B. Eskridge, who lived in the latter part of the 1800's and had a large amount of information about the family said that the name came from the fact that the family in Europe lived on a ridge that intersected or paralleled the Esk River. There is an Esk River in both England, close to Whitehill, and in Scotland. This may be the origin of the suggestion that we are of Scottish descent.
