I am in the process of updating my website esp. the Eskews.
In 1820 census of Franklin Co Va is my John Askew:
he is a male age 45& up
female age 45& up: this is Lucy Sees
2 sons age 14 & 16: Hiram and Lewis
1 son 16-18 bracket: Willaim (my line)
1 son 16-26 : I believe is Robert E. (he is in Hanover Co Va and then Kanawha co until 1850 and then I cannot find him, he may have died, but he is living near my bunch, need more research on him, so he is a tentative son of JOhn and Lucy, if there is such a thing, hahahh )
1810 census Va
John Aschew, Franklin Co Va (the father in my line)
Philip Aschue, Franklin Co Va (moves to Russell Co Va)
William Askew, Franklin Co VA
John Askew , Franklin Co VA
(father and son)
Obediah in Patrick Co Va: had land deeds in Kanawha co Va
William Askew pg 45 Franklin Co Va,
Hiram Askew, pg 45, Franklin Co Va,
Robert Askew is in Hanover Co VA
Now look at this:
in franklin co va 1830 census
this is William, his father John, and I believe his brother Hiram all in Franklin Co Va:
William Askew had
2 sons under 5: John & Andrew
1 male 5-10 Preston
1 male 10-15 Kendrick
1 male 30-40 William
1 male 70-80 his father John Askew no doubt:
same census page
1 male 10-15 (who was this son??? possibly Henry listed in Kan Co 1850, near Hiram)
1 male 20-30 Hiram
1 female- 30-40 (who is she ???)Hiram married once in Franklin Co VA and again in Kan.Co WV to Mary McClaskey.
Hiram married Mary, not Dorsal, unless there were "two" Mary McClaskey's and nothing in genealogy would supprise me. Dorsal Henley is not Dorsal Hiram.
Hiram is not in Va 1840 census;
I think he is in Indiana, but need to do some more searching.
William Askew is William Escue in Kanawha Co Va/WV1840 census.
Lewis Ascue is in the property tax list of 1840 in Franklin Co Va as well as the 1850 census.
District 29, Kanawha co VA/WV, here is a run down of our Eskews:
Henry Esque & Martha (is this the son of Hiram?) born VA in 1810,(see 1830 census, Franklin Co above) In this census of 1850 is a girl in Henry's household, Elizabeth Williams, (maybe a stepdaughter) age 15 born in Indiana. It may mean that Henry Esque and was in Indiana between 1840-1850, maybe Hiram was with him. Maybe they went there after the first wife of Hiram died, a lot of maybe, hahahhahah.
Andrew Esque & Hannah (son of William )born VA
Hiram Esque & Mary, (I believe to be brother to William)VA
William & Docia Esque (son of John and Lucy)VA
Preston Esque & Elizabeth Moore (son of William)VA
Robert E Escue, watch repairer, born N.C. & Narcissa born VA
(might be a son of John & Lucy)
I have information from a researcher in Kanawha Co WV that does lookups and he sent me the information that says: Hiram Esque (found in 1850, 1860, and 1870 census of WV) married Mary A McClaskey, May 7 1846, Kanawha co WV.
Hiram is living in house #204, my Fleming is in house 206, and Andrew is house 202) Hiram always lives near my line of Escue's.
anyway back to census:
Hiram age 57
Mary age 35
John Lewis 13
Martha A 8
Mary E 4
Hiram Jr 1
In 1870, Hiram at age 67 has two more children listed: Evelyn and Andrew. Hiram married Mary in 1846 and i dont see where he married again after that.
As I was cleaning out old notebooks, I did find an email from a researcher who did lookups for me in 1999, do you keep your email that long, hahah.
Putnam County marriges 1848-1882
George Eskew (b) 1829 Louisa Co VA
father Richard Eskew; mother Martha.
George married Ellen Shepherd, May 17 1854 Putnam Co
Jermany W. Eskew born 1820, Louisa Co VA
father: Richard Eskew, mother "M"
married (1) N.A.S. Sims, (1854)(2) Eliza Smith
Putnam Co VA
Jonathan Eskew married Louisa Whittington Jan 23 1851.Putnam Co
P.E.W. Eskew age 23, Putnam Co WV (b) 1850
father : Dersal Eskew, mother Matilda
married Emily Wallace, on Jan 12 1873, Putnam Co
Looks like descendants of a RICHARD ESKEW settled into Putnam Co Wv about the same time that the desc. of JOHN ASKEW settled into Kanawha Co.
Now if we can ever connect Richard Eskew and John Askew then we will know that the Putnam and Kanawha County Eskews/EScue's of 1840 and 1850 are truly "kin". Here is one clue that may connect us all:
There is one Richard Eskew listed on Rootsweb, he is married to a MARTHA HUBBARD and he was the son of a (are you ready) HIRAM ESKEW.
I do see a pattern. The names keep going in circles.
Richard was born abt 1787 , my John was born abt 1768. WHAT IF!!! another if..... John and Richard were both the sons of HIRAM ESKEW. That would make Dorsal and William cousins. On Rootsweb it states, Richard Eskew born abt 1787, married Martha Hubbard, Buchingham Co Va, died abt 1846. son of Hiram and Lucy.
One son is recorded on Rootsweb:
Everett Rollins Eskew born 1831, Louisa Co Va (same as the guys in Putnam Co) and Everett marries Sarah Cox in PUTNAM CO VA 1852;
Now we have 3 men, George, Jermany, and Everett Rollins, all being married in Putnam Co WV 1851 to 1854 and their father was Richard ESkew and Martha (Hubbard), I suspect since Jonathan Eskew married 1851 Putnam Co , he too, may be a son of Richard. So the desc. of Richard Eskew of Buchingham Co VA settled into Putnam Co VA before 1850. They were born in Louisa Co Va around the 1820's .
My John Askew was in Franklin Co Va in 1820 and his desc settled into Kanawha Co WV 1840.. Now we all know that Putnam and Kanawha are a stone throw away. They could have been in different counties and still be a few miles from each other.
Now if Hiram who is always living near my William or william's sons is a brother to William and Richard's father was named Hiram ESkew, what's the odds,??????.
We are getting closer to completing this family of Eskews in WV.
have I messed everybody up completely.
Have a great day.
Lets keep on looking and we will find the connection to Dorsal's family line and William & Docia's line. I still beleive that Hiram Eskew in Kan. co is a brother to William and a son of John & Lucy Askew and he married Mary McClaskey.
