John Douglas Erwin
SHREVEPORT, LA - John Douglas Erwin, 60, a lifelong resident of Shreveport, died of natural causes on August 22. A graduate of Byrd High School, he was retired from Western Electric (later Lucent) after a 30-year career. John was a person of strong preferences - tostadas and salsa from El Chico's, strawberry pie from Strawn's, the original "Star Trek" series, science fiction by Robert Heinlein, "The Nutcracker" as performed locally, the Broadway version of "Peter Pan" with music by Leonard Bernstein. He loved being in the outdoors, before being confined by muscular dystrophy. John will be remembered for his unexpected kindnesses and his good heart. He is survived by his beloved companion of 33 years, Gail Notini; a sister, Sylvia Burdue of Booneville, Ark.; two brothers, Bill and wife Heidrun of Durham, N.C., and Neil and wife Glenda of Shreveport; cousins, nieces and nephews. A private family service will be held on Saturday, Aug. 29.
