Robert T. Ervin, banker in Wharton in late 1890's
I am interested in any information about Robert Thomas Ervin born in 1867 in north Texas and relocated to south Texas by 1891. I understand from newspaper reports (Galv Daily News) that he had worked as cashier at the First Natl Bk in Beeville but resigned in July 1891. He applied to establish the First Natl Bk of Wharton in Jan 1893. On 27 April 1893 he married Mary Clarke in Trinity Episcopal Church in Galveston. He died supposedly of a heart attack at age 31 (27 Mar 1899). Although he was supposedly a successful banker and married to the daughter of a Galveston pioneer family, his death merited only about a one line entry in the newspaper.I am wondering if there was more to it. Any info from Beeville, Velasco, or Wharton would be very much appreciated - or point me to possible resources and I will travel down there from Houston. Many thanks!
