Dear Cindy - Don't give up and keep your sense of humor. Just today, I found an entry by someone who had sent their information to Family Tree Maker and they have it on the internet. Some poor woman wound up married to her "husband" two years before she was born!Sometimes I think people don't read what they are entering into their data and then I go and find the same sort of mistakes in mine. I think some of it comes from merging individuals about whom you have received data from more than one researcher. Just try to pick the one you think has the best documentation (a DAR record [they are by no means always correct], dates from a tombstone or, if you can get it a death certificate [same for birth dates], etc.), and stick with it. Another thing that really messes things up is the custom of using the same names over and over again. If a couple has 12 kids and each of those 12 kids names a child after grandma or grandpa, you can have a dozen William Smiths all born within a few years of each other! Very frustrating, but it's part of what learning to be a real genealogical researcher is all about. Glad to see your name again. Gloria Kerns, SLC, UG, 1998.
