I have Erskines in my lineage and have tracked much of the family which came into the US in Delaware/Maryland/Pennsylvania and migrated to Virginia (now WV) around 1800.

I have a Henry Erskine in my tree who was born in 1787 and resided in Greenbrier County, VA until the 1840s. He was an officer in the militia and died in Mexico in 1847 in the Mexican War. His family had land in Virginia and he could well be the Henry Erskine who helped finance the land acquisition. His younger brother Michael (my ggg grandfather) migrated eventually to Texas but lived in Bolivar County Mississippi and raised cotton for several years in the 1830s. Bolivar County is on the river northwest of Yazoo County.

I also have a James Erskine, (1798 - bef. 1860) who lived in adjacent Monroe County, Virginia, and was Henry's cousin.

Henry Erskine's brother Alexander Erskine (1791-1857) settled in Huntsville, Alabama, and was a physician. Three of his sons -- Albert, Alexander, and John -- were also physicians, and Alexander and John lived in Memphis, but not until after 1850.

If you have information on the Erskines in the land deal, I'd be interested in trading information.
