Henry Erskine was indeed killed in the Mexican War. His widow Agatha applied for a pension in September 1849 as documented in

White, Virgil P., Transcriber, Index to Old Wars Pension Files, 1815-1926, (Waynesboro, TN; The National Historical Publishing Company, 1993.), p. 219.
