My grandfather, Robert Erskine Brown was born in Australia in 1883.
His parents were Robert William Coltman Brown (born and baptised Edinburgh 1854) and Esther Nimmo Sandilands (daughter of Captain William Nimmo Sandilands)who were married St Cuthbert's, Edinburgh, Scotland 1853.
His paternal grandfather was Robert Brown (baptised Dunbar, Scotland 1828)
His paternal greatgrandparents were Robert Brown and Agnes Coltman.
I have not been able to find any siblings in each of the Brown generations nor any further evidence of the Sandilands family in Scotland.
Does anyone have any connection with the Brown/Sandilands/Nimmo families which may explain why my grandfather's second name was ERSKINE?
