My great great great grandfather was James Erskine who settled in Port Sanilac, Sanilac County, Michigan in about 1854 and lived there until about 1887. He ran the Erskine House Hotel there with Edward Erskine, who I believe was his brother, and was also a lumberman. James was born in the Aroostook County, Maine/New Brunswick area in 1824 and his family was from Scotland. When did John Erskine come to Sanilac and what town did he live in? Does any of this sound like they may be related?
In searching for James Erskine in the New Brunswick area I have come upon a listing for John Erskine in the 1867-68 directory for New Brunswick, Charlotte County. Any chance this is your John Erskine?
