Merge Files - "A serious internal error.....

I am trying to Merge two .ftw files. I have done it without problem many times before.

Today when I try it I get the error "A serious internal error has occurred. Please quit and then restart Family Tree Maker 2005."

I tried that a few times without success. Including after rebooting the system.

I then thought perhaps one of my files was corrupted. So I created a very small new .ftm file. I tried to merge it with each of the original two files. Same error in both cases. The original files are 6.6 MB and 530 KB respectively.

Is the problem with the application (corrupted)? Or is the problem with the files (corrupted)? What do I do?

Thanks,
jds
