FTM 2006 exe file stopped working
I am currently using FTM 2006 with Windows Vista Home Premium 64 bit. I downloaded the patch for Vista and everything was working just fine for a long time. The other day, I was adding names and information with no problems, I went to open it back up an hour later and I got an error message that said, "Program was not shut down properly. Family tree executable has stopped working." There was nothing added or changed on my computer in the hour before I went back to it. I tried uninstalling FTM and reinstalling it and this did not work. I also tried to do a restore from a backup to another computer which was also running FTM 2006, and I got the same error message. "Family tree Maker executable has stopped working." That computer has Vista 32 bit. I have almost 40,000 names in my program and have been working on it for a long time. I called tech support at ancestry.com and they said they don't do phone support for 2006 anymore. I emailed them and they sent back an email saying that my program was crashing and that I should follow the link and instructions below. However, they never gave the link or the instructions. I have emailed them back and recieved no response. Please help. Phone support told me that the data might be recovered if I buy a newer version of FTM, but I don't want to spend the money unless I am certain that it will work. If my info is lost, I have no desire to stsrt all over.
