Damaged File
For over 2 years, we have been trying to find a way to get our data out of a damaged FTW 2005 file.
In January 2006, my wife was adding a photo to the "scrapbook" in her Family Tree Maker 2005 (12.0.345 SP1) file. The FTM program froze up and became unresponsive. After a complete reboot, the file was reopened without difficulty. The lastest additions were there except for the last photo. It was added successfully and the file closed normally. The next time she tried to load the file, however, she got this message: "The information in the specified file has been damaged and cannot be used ..." The program can NOT even open the file (5,000 records), so FTM's various file "fixing" utilities, built into the program, are not useful. Is there anyway to get these or other utilities to run on a file that won't open?
The backup file was also corrupted. We worked with FTM tech support for several weeks, reinstalled FTM, tried to import the file to a New, empty file, even mailed in a copy of the file and was told by Genealogy.com Tecnical Support: "I am sorry to report that despite all our best effort and all the tools at our disposal, the file was damaged beyond repair. We were unable to retrieve any data from the file."
We continue to search for a solution. The closest we've got to a solution is that Mud Creek Software's GENViewer v1.21 CAN READ the file. We did random checks and all the data seems to be in the file and readable by GENViewer. Some, if not all, of the "Notes" show up on the wrong record (person). And, unfortunately records cannot be exported, added or modified with GENViewer.
Is there anyone out there that can help us recover the data from this file?
