Too bad you don't have a complete birthdate. What is the month and year of birth found in her 1900 U.S. Federal Census? Where specifically did she live after she came to the U.S.?

Probably few readers of this Erickson forum even know about the Emibas CD. (It is best to ask on the Sweden forum about Swedes born in Sweden.) Emibas is a very expensive cd and many people don't purchase it. There are several people on the Sweden forum who own it, however and those people provide lookups. (When you post on the Erickson forum, you need to have someone from the Sweden forum find your message. That is often going to take a long time, sometimes even years. Those who can help usually post on the Sweden forum and don't bounce around to surname forums.)

I see this person who doesn't exactly fit but she is the only person with that name in that year. It is possible that the dates were misread by the transcriber. (They had to deal with scribbly writing.) If this is the right person, note that her province is Västergötland. Maybe that is why your family thinks she came from Götland, which is both a county and a province.)

Adamsdotter, Kristina
Piga = maid. (unmarried woman)

b. 4/25/1856 in Amnehärad, Skaraborgs län (Västergötland)

Emigrated 8/12/1881
from Bramsegården Hova, Hova, Skaraborgs län (Västergötland)
to Amerika

Source: Household Examination Roll, p. 81

Emibas migration file ID: Hova R 1881 048

Emibas is only about 75% complete, however.

She is probably this person on the Emihamn database. This also took place in August, so if your person arrived in June, this can't be your Christina.

First name: CHRISTINA
Last name: ADAMSDOTTER
Age: 25 Gender: K
Parish: HOVA County: R (Skaraborg)
Port: GÖTEBORG
Date: 1881 08 19
Destination: NEW YORK
Fellows: NEJ

To research your Christina Adamsdotter in the U.S., try the Swenson Swedish Immigration Research Center. They have a website but their extensive collection of records is NOT online. The Swenson Center has records which are difficult or even impossible to find elsewhere. Many of us have learned a great deal from this fantastic archive. If she joined one of their churches, the records will probably provide a parish name in Sweden. Records were kept in the parish.

You can obtain a free booklet with an overview of Swedish genealogy, plus ideas on how to gather more clues. The following url has a link to downloading the free booklet and also a link to ordering the booklet to be sent by mail (also for free). The booklet comes very quickly, so it is better than using up a lot of ink and paper copying the download.

I can't find any Edit/Edith Renberg/Rehnberg (with or without the Er*) on the Emibas CD. Was Rehnberg a married name or a maiden name? Do you have a birthdate for her? When did she come to the U.S. or wherever she ended up?

I am not related.

Judy
