James, My name is Michael Allen Epling and I am from the Pikeville/Elkhorn City area. Phillip Epling (the Author) was my Grandfather. He is part of the family of Eplings that was raised in the Poor Bottom/Marrowbone area (between Pikeville and Elkhorn City) and moved to Elkhorn City sometime in the late 40's/early 50's. We are descendents of Isaac Epling as Kay mentioned.

My father (Allen Junior Epling) is in to geneology and has several copies of the book that was mentioned and has made numerous contributions to it. He would be the person to ask about the various branches of the family tree and I would be happy to put you in contact with him if you wish.

BTW, my sons name is James Michael Epling.

We hold an Epling family reunion every year. Would love to have you and your family join us.

Epling seems to be a rare name no matter what state you are in. There is one other Epling line in Pike County but it branched off from mine somewhere so far back that noone seems to recall who the common ancestor was. The resemblence is still striking however.
