Hi Rose, Eoff was originally Off, a German name with an umlaut over the O. The immigrant ancestor and all known before him spelled the name Off. Sometime in the early 1700's the son of the immigrant was spelling the name Eoff; the reason for this spelling change is unknown. The name was and is pronounced "Oaf", in earlier times more like "Ove". Nearly all Eoffs in the United States today pronounce the name "Oaf", but there are a few families who now pronounce the name E-Off, to match the spelling. The young man in Oklahoma City is no doubt a descendant of the immigrant "Off" ancestor. Shirley M Eoff Notify Administrator about this message?
