Since you are new to Eoff research I thought you might like to have this. I was happy to learn what the first name of Jane Knox's husband was. All I had was ?? Buchanan. I have no dates for either of them. I would love to know more.

Taken from THE PALATINE FAMILIES OF NEW YORK, 1710; VOL. II, by HENRY Z. JONES, JR. Pages 713, 714,715,716,717,718 & 719.

JACOB OFF (Hunters Lists #562)

The J.J. EOFF - OFF family was documented in Germany at 7056 GroBheppac(14
km. e. of Stuttgart), at 7307 AichschieB (8 km. s. of GroBheppach; Chbks. begin
1636), and at 7307 Krummhardt (1 km. n. of AichschieB), entries in registers of
7307 Schanbach (Chbks. begin 1654, but gaps) and 7307 Aichelberg. Probable
grandparents of Jacob (1) were JACOB OFF, d. 8 Apr 1676, aged 86 yrs., at
Krummhardt, and Catharina, his wife, d. 27 Jan 1667, aged 62 yrs. (both
Aichelberg Chbk.). JACOB OFF, s/o JACOB OFF, widower and citizen at Crummert,
md. SUSANNA, d/o JERG REUTTER at Aichschies, 16 June 1667 (Shcanbach Chbk.).
SUSANNA REUTTER probably was the ANNA, d/o JERG REITTER the younger and wife SUSANNA, bpt. 11 Mar 1642 - sp.: MICHEL BEEDER - burgomaster, and URSULA - w/o JERG MEYER (AichschieB Chbk.). JERG REITTER the younger md. SUSANNA, d/o HANS FUNCK from KRUMMHARDT, 24 June 1640 (AichschieB Chbk.). JERG REUTTER D. 16 May 1681, aged 66 Yrs., and SUSANNA, wid/o jERG REUTTER, d. 16 Mar 1687, aged 72-1-3 (both AichschieB Chbk.). JERG REUTTER the younger undoubtedly was the s/o Old JERG REITTER, who d. 13 Apr 1663, aged ca. 72 yrs., shot by the s/o LIENHARDT WIDMAN during a hunting expedition; the w/o Old JERG REITTER was ANNA (??), d 13 Jan 1663, aged 71 yrs., and bur.with a note in her obituary that she was suspected of sorcery (both a AichschieB Chbk). The ch. of JACOB OFF and his wife SUSANNA all bpt. at Schanbach were:

HANS JACOB, bpt. 19 Nov 1668 to JACOB OFF the younger at Crummert and SUSANNA. A note in the chbk. adds "+". ROSINA, bpt. 24 Jan 1670.
MICHAEL, bpt. 22 Sept 1671. A note the chbk. adds "+". JOSEPH, bpt. 4 Jan 1674. + HANB JACOB, bpt. 17 Oct 1679. ANNA SABINA, bpt. 20 Aug 1682.

HASB JACOB OFF, s/o the late JACOB OFF - formerly citizen in Krummhardt, md.
MARIA MAGDALENA NUSSBAUM, surviving d/o the late HASB NUSSBAUM - formerly citizen at GroBheppach, 14 June 1702 (GroBheppach Chbk.). HANB NUSSBAUM md. ANNA MARIA SCHURLINS, d/o HANB SCHURLINS of Grossheppach, 20 Jan 1667 (GroBheppach Chbk.)

JACOB OFF made his initial appearance on the Hunter Lists 4 July 1710 with
2 pers. over 10 yrs. and 3 pers. under 10 yrs. of age; the last entry for the
family, with these same numbers, was 4 Oct 1710. MAGDALENA OFFIN, a Widow, aged 32, JOHAN JACOB OFFIN aged 8, and ANNA BARBARA OFFIN aged 6, were in N.Y. City in 1710/11 (Palatines in N.Y. City). MAGDALENA PAAN, wid/o JACOB HOOF from Wirtenbergerlandt, md. JOAN PETER KASSENER, widower from Keur Pals, 2 Apr 1711 (N.Y. City Ref. Chbk.). The ch. of JACOB (1) OFF were:
1) JOHANN JACOB (2) bpt. as JACOB, an illegitimate child of MAGDALENA NUSSBAUMERIN, who named JACOB OFFEN of Krimmhardt as father, 10 Apr 1702 - sp. : NICODEMUS BAUR, JOHANNED SCHILP, and MARIA MARBAR d/o JERG LEONHARDT FISHER (GroBheppach Chbk.). JOHANN JACOB (2) was recorded at N.Y. City in 1710/11 with his mother and sister (Patatines in N.Y. City). Sometime after 1732 JACOB EOFF bought 500 acres on the s.e. corner of Peapack Patent from the executors of John Johnstone: JACOB OEFF (written OVET) swore he knew of no misbehavior by MARGET, w/o PASTOR WOLF, 7 Aug 1738 (Luth. Church in N.Y. and N.J., p. 137). A Bedminstertown church
subscription list 7 Aug 1756 includes JACOB EOFF SR., JACOB EOFF JR., and
ABRAHAM EOFF: JACOB EOFF was a vestryman at St. Paul's Church in 1767 and 1768 (Letter to me from John P. Dern, Dec 1977). JACOB EOFF wrote his will 12 Aug 1772, and it was probated 9 Sept 1780 (N.J. Wills: file 629-R-W). He was bur. at Pluckemin (Bedminstertown) 21 Aug 1780, aged 77 yrs. (New Germantown
Chbk.). The w/o JOHANN JACOB (2) was MARIA MAGDALENA, d. 11 Nov 1761, aged 57 yrs. (Pluckemin Cem.); his will suggests that JOHANN JACOB (2) may have md. a 2nd time, due to the ages of his younger ch. (HJ). I strongly believe that Maria Magdalena, w/o JOHANN JACOB (2) EOFF, was MARIA MAGDALENA SPOHNHEIMER. bpt. 29 Oct 1702 to JOHANN GEORG SPOHNHEIMER and wife ANNA MARIA at 6531 Laubenheim:1)SPOHNHEIMER (as Jans Jurgen Speeneman) sp. the eldest ch. of JOHANN JACOB (2) EOFF; 2) Spohnheimer lived but one house away from PETER KASTNER, step-father of JOHANN JACOB (2) EOFF, on originals of the Simmendinger Register ca. 1716/17; 3) ROBERT (3) EOFF, bpt. 1741 had an unusual name for an 18th century N.J. German, probably named for Robert Bolmer, son-in-law of Spohnheimer; and 4) the will of Spohnheimer in 1751 mentions his son-in-law, JACOB COLL or COBB - which I believe is actually a mis-read version of the name JACOB EOFF (HJ). The ch. of JAHOANN JACOB (2) *usually known as JACOB0 EOFF were:

1) JOHANNES (3), bpt. 10 Jan 1725 - sp.: HANS JURGEN and .... SPEENEMAN
(Somerville Ref. Chbk.).
2) PETER (3) (will).
3) GERHARDT (3) (Garret) (Will).
4) JACOB (3), bpt. 19 Jan 1728 (Somerville Ref. Chbk.).
5) ABRAHAM (3), bpt. 25 Oct 1730 (Somerville Ref. Chbk.).
6) JANNET (3), bpt. 9 Apr 1732 (Somerville Ref. Chbk.).
7) ROBERT (3), bpt. 24 May 1741 (Somerville Ref. Chbk.).
8) CORNELIUS (3), bpt. 18 Dec 1743 (Somerville Ref. Chbk.).
9) CHRISTIAN (3) (Will).
10) MARIA MAGDALENA (3) (Will).
11) MARIA (3) (Will).
12) CATHARINA (3) (Will).

2) JOHANN MICHAEL (2), b. at Krummert and bpt. 4 Sept 1703 - sp. NICODEMUS
BAUR - vinedresser, JOHANNES SCHILP - stonecutter, both from B. Heppach, and
BARBARA w/o FRIEDRICH GOTTLING the weaver at Crommert (Schanbach Chbk.).

3) ANNA BARBARA (2), bpt 15 Dec 1704 - sp.: same as above (Schanbach Chbk.)
She was noted on the 1710/11 list at N.Y. City (Palatines in N.Y. City).

4) ANNA CATHARINA (2) bpt. 18 Feb 1706 - sp.: same as above (Schanbach Chbk.). After her name, a "+" was written.

5) SUDWIG HENRICH (2) bpt. 19 Aug 1707 - sp.: NICOD. BAUR from Heppach, Johs. Unrath from Schanbach, and Barbara - w/o Friedr. Gottling at Cr. (Schanbach Chbk.). After his name, a "+" was written.

6) LUDWIG HENRICH (2) bpt. 2 Jan 1709 - sp.: HB. Unrath fr. Schanbach
(Schanbach Chbk.).

My researcher reports that she obtained bpts. #2 - #6 from the Schanbach
registers at the Pfarrhaus in Aichelberg (HJ).

It was Mr. Ernest F. Barton (of Waco, TX, pmp) who commissioned Friedrich R. Wollmershauser
to make the initial searches in Germany for the EOFF family, and I shall always
be grateful to them both for their discovery of the family there. Dr. Roberta
Margaret Grahame has published an interesting study of this group, "The Eoff
Family From the Old World to the New."

JOHANN GEORG SPANHEIMER (Hunter Lists #726)

The roots of this family were found at 6531 Laubenheim (10 km. n. of Bad
Kreuznach; Chbks. begin 1659). This family emigrated with several others from
this lovely village (see my article "Emigrants From Laubenheim, Germany to N.Y. in 1709/10: in the National Genealogical Lociety Quarterly, Vol. 70, N. 2, June 1982). The chbks. there show HanB Georg Sponheimer and wife Anna Maria there 1697 - 1708. Jurig Spanemer, his wife, and (ch.) Maria Rosina, Anna Maria and 2 (additional) ch., were in the 2nd party of Palatines in Holland in 1709
(Rotterdam Lists). Georg Spanheimier aged 45, his wife, and daughters aged 11,
9, 7, and 1, Ref., Husbandman and vinedresser, were in the 2nd arrivals in
England after that yr. (London Lists).

JOHANN GEORG SPANHEIMER made his initial appearance on the Hunter Lists 4
Aug 1710 with 4 pers. over 10 and 1 pers. under 10 yrs. of age. The family
showed 4 pers. over 10 on 24 Dec 1711, and __? pers. over 10 and 2 under 10 on 25 Mar 1712, with a note adding that this was to compensate for the omission of one young child) earlier; the family then was registered with 4 pers. over 10
and 1 pers. under 10 on 24 June 1710. Jno. georg Spanhimer: __? man and 1
woman, 2 maids aged 9 - 15 yrs., and 1 girl aged 8 and under, were in Ulster
Co. in 1710/11 (West Camp Census). Georg Sponheimer and Anna Maria with 3 ch. were listed next to Valentin __inder (from Laubenheim) ca. 1716/17 at
Beckmansland: Georg Sponhimer and Magdalena with 3 ch. were noted ca. 1716/17 at Beckmansland; Georg Spondimer and Magdalena with 3 ch. were noted ca. 1716/17 auf dem __rendantz (both Simmendinger Register). Johann Georg (1) and wife Anna Maria sp. JACOB EOFF (written CAOF) in 1725 (Somerville Ref. Chbk.) He was noted with Robert Bolmar in the Janeway Account Books 1736 - 1745.
Papers in the estate of Johann Jerry Spoonemer of Somerset Co. were issued 14
Nov 1751 (N.J. Wills: Lib. F, p.__); they mention his sons-in-law Robert Bolmer
and Jacob Coll?Cobb (the latter, I believe strongly, is a mistaken entry for
Jacob Eoff _HJ). The ch. of Johann Georg (1) Spanheimer and wife Anna Maria were:

1) ANNA MARIA ROSINA(2), bpt. 17 Mar 1697 - sp.: Peter Leonhardt and his wife
(Laubenheim Chbk.); the Pastor noted regarding the father "p.t. absens. weil er
in Kreigsdiensten unter Ihro Churfurstl. Durchlaucht zu Pfaltz" in the actual entry. She md. Robert Bolmer/Bulmer (HJ).

2) ANNA MARIA (2), bpt. 27 Sept 1699 - sp.: Hans Peter Enck, and Anna Maria -
d/o Jacob Welgeheimer (Laubenheim Chbk.).

3) MARIA MAGDALENA (2), bpt. 29 Oct 1702 - sp.: Master Valentin BuB - widower
and shoemaker, and Engel Buch - wid/o MattheiB Bich (Laubenheim Chbk.). She
md. JACOB EOFF (HJ).

4) CATHARINA PHILIPPINA (2), bur. 17 Aug 1708, aged 3 yrs. and 6 months
(Laubenheim Chbk.).

5) ANNA CHRISTINA (2), bpt. 11 Mar 1708 - sp.: Joh. NiclauB KalbfuB - a smith
from WeinBheim auBm Ober Amt Xnach, and Anna Sophia Seckler from Manubach (?) - his bride (Laubenheim Chbk.)

5) ANNA MARGARETHA (2), bpt. 12 May 1710 on the ship Midfort - sp.: Johann
Valentin Baender and wife Anna Margretha (West Camp Luth. Chbk.).
