Hello Everyone,
Last night I did a search in the “Book” area of Heritage Quest Online to see what books, if any, they might have on the Eoff Family. One of the books they available for online viewing is titled "The Van Doorn Family (VanDoorn, Van Dorn, Van Doren, etc.) in Holland and America 1088—1908", by A. Van Doren Honeyman.
I was attracted to this book in particular because of the name of the author who is presumably the same A. Van Doren Honeyman who edited the "Somerset County Historical Quarterly" in which the article “The Eoff Family of Pluckemin” appeared in 1918.
On page 339 I found the following paragraph in which the author is speaking of Jacob Van Doorn. “The Eoff family of Pluckemin into which Jacob married was in interesting one. Christian Eoff, Jacob’s father-in-law, was the hotel keeper at Pluckemin, and many anecdotes are related of him. For some of these ancedots see “Our Home,” p42). Christian Eoff was the only son of Jacob Eoff and Maria Tiepel (Teeple) and Christian’s children were: Anne, Mary, Catherine, Jacob, and the Rachel who m. Jacob Van Doren. On Christian Eoff’s farm the ‘Battle of Pluckemin’ was fought.”
Roberta Margaret Grahame, in her book The Eoff Family from the Old World to the New, specifically states that Jacob Eoff’s first wife, Maria Magdalena, was not a Teeple. This conclusion was based on there not being a Maria Magdalena who could be fit into any known Teeple family. She was silent as to whether or not Jacob’s second wife was or could have been a Teeple.
So, my question is this. Did A. Van Doren Honeyman know something we don’t? Could Jacob's second wife have been a Teeple? Conversely, do we know something he didn’t know that would rule it out?
I haven’t seen any mention of this information on any other posting and thought it was of at least passing interest. I am rather new to the area of Eoff research as I have just recently proved my ancestry back to Josiah Buchanan and Jane Knox and her parents, John Knox and Elizabeth Eoff. I would appreciate hearing your thoughts and comments.
