Nicholas Ensminger lived in Lebanon Township, Lancaster County, PA. He owned a "plantation".

In the Name of God. Amen. I, Nicholas Ensminger of Lebanon Township, Lancaster County and State of Pennsylvania, being at present very sick and weak in body but of perfect mind, memory, and understanding, thanks be given unto God, calling unto mind the mortality of my body, do make and ordain this my last will and testament in maner and form following, that is to say, I recommend my soul into the hand of Allmighty God that gave it and my body I recommend to the earth to be buried in decent christian burial and as touching such worldly estate wherewith it has pleased God to bless me in this life I give and dispose of the same in the following maner and form.

Imprimis. It is my will that all my just debts and funeral charges to be paid of by my hereafter named executors as soon as possible.

Item. It is my will and order that my two beloved sons Peter and Daniel shall have possession of my plantation and of all what they shall raise or what grows in the said plantation. They my said two sons shall give the third part unto my beloved wife Elisabeth 'till my youngest son Jonathan is fourteen years old, if she remains my widow.

Item. It is my will that my said beloved wife Elisabeth shall live and possess the room wherein we now live if she can agree with my two sons, but if she will then my said two sons shall build her a little convenient house at an convenient place for her to live in, also to make a garden for her not exceeding one quarter acre and to fence the same and (dung) it yearly for her as my widow.

Item. It is further my will that my said beloved wife as my widow shall have possession of all my beds and bedstads, pewter, iron kettles and pots, and all other house furniture necessary for her to keep house with till my youngest son is fourteen years old. Further it is my will that my plantation whereon I now live shall be valued and appraised by four responsable men which my hereafter executors shall choose unto my two beloved sons Peter and Daniel before mentioned when my youngest son is fourteen years old and then my said two sons Peter and Daniel shall deliver and make good unto my said beloved wife Elisabeth as my widow yearly and every year one (hundred lb) pork, fifty pounds of beef, twelve bushels of wheat, ten pounds of hatched hemp or flax, twenty five hundred pounds of good hay and straw also to cut and hawl to her door sufficient fire wood and to keep too sheep for her somer and winter. The cow is to go in the field with their own cows. A little stable they must likewise build for my said wife. And it is my will and order that my said wife as my widow after my youngest son Jonathan is fourteen years old shall have a bed and bedstad and all belonging to it two iron pots, two platters, six plates, and six spoons, the desk for cloth's, one spinning wheel, one table, one chair, and one co w. But all the rest of the houshold goods she shall deliver unto my hereafter named executors or the survivors of them.

Item. It is my will that my eldest son Peter shall have five pounds good hart money over and above his equal share.

Further it is my will that hereafter named executors shall sell all such goods and creatures which shall not be wanting after my decease.

Item. It is my will and order that my hereafter named executors shall divide the money of my real and personal estate unto my beloved wife and children in equal shares only my three daughters to receive each of them twenty pounds less than my wife and sons. My wife is to receive the said share as my widow.

Item. It is my will that in case my said beloved wife should marry that then my executors or the survivors of them shall pay unto her fifty pounds good hart money and all the last mentioned houshold goods and then she is immediately to quit this my said plantation.

Item. It is my will that my hereafter named executors or the survivors of them shall have full power to give a good lawful deed unto my two sons

And lastly I do hereby (constitute nominate) and appoint my beloved friends Christopher Lebold and Jacob Philippi whole and sole executors of this my last will and testament. And I do hereby utterly disallow and revoke all former wills and testaments, legacies and executors ratifying and confirming this and no other to be my lst will and testament. In witness hereof I have hereunto set my hand and seal the twenty first day of February in the Year of our Lord one thousand seven hundred and eighty one.

Lanc. Co. ss. The eighth day of June Anno Domini 1781. Before me the subscriber personally appeared David Wagner and Lorentz Segrist the two subscribing witnesses to the foregoing will. The said David Wagner on his corporal oath and the said Lorentz Segrist on his solemn affirmation according to law did severally declare and say that they were present and saw and heard Nicholas Ensminger the testator above named sign, seal, publish, pronounce, and declare the foregoing writing as and for his last will and testament and that at the doing thereof he was of sound and well desposing mind, memory, and understanding to the best of their knowledge, observation, and belief.

Be It Remembered that on the eighth day of June Anno Domini 1781 the last will and testament of Nicholas Ensminger later of Lebanon Township in the County of Lancaster deceased was proved in due form of law, and lettters testamentary thereon were granted to Christopher Lebold and Jacob Philippi the executors therein named they having first duly qualified well and truly to administer the estate of the said deceased and to exhibit a perfect inventory thereof into the Register's Office at
Lancaster on or before the eighth day of July next and to render a just account of their administration of the said estate when thereto lawfully required. Given under the Seal of the said office.
