There are 2 lines of Ensmingers, unrelated, comming from the same village or surounding area of Insming, Moselle, Lorraine France.
The village of Insming is still in existance in France
Hans Gerber Ensminger, Father is Peter Gerber(a tanner) of Insming
and Hans Meyer(a dairyman) of Insming. This is where the surname of Ensminger came about. When my line moved from Insming to Diemeringen, Alsace, He was refured to as Peter the Isminger
(as one would call a person fron New York, A New Yorker)Hence, His son took the surname of Ensminger. My lineage came to America starting in the year 1733 .
It's easy to get the 2 families mixed up because they both came to America about the same times and settled in about the same areas. Hope this helps a bit.
