Well, if he ever did live there, then it wasn't for very long. My conversation with my mother reveled that he may have gone away for a while, but later came back to Alabama.

According to my grandmother's notes, Monte Tinch found out years later that his daddy, Simon Couch, had a family in Sand Mountain, AL. I'll have to check the geography on Sand Mountain to see if it is close to any of the information you provided.

Thank you so much for tracking down some leads. I'll also look at the GA and SC records, since Monte Tinch Hatton was born in Newman, GA in 1880. Geography may play a role in narrowing which Simon Couch it may have been there too.
