Max; The middle name of Ensley has been passed down through the family for generations, mainly through the work of the late E.Q. Richards of Mississippi, the late Joel D. Doss of Texas, and Clyde Stewart (I don't know his status) of Oklahoma. I don't know the original documented source - but these men were very scrupulous in their research. Unfortunately E.Q. Richards' and Joel D. Doss' files are lost - I have been trying for years to locate them but no-one seems to know what happened to them. Further evidence (but not proof) that his middle name was Ensley is that several of his grandchildren and great-grandchildren have the middle name Ensley, including one great-grandson named Hugh Ensley Stewart. A good source of Cockerham and Stewart information is "Fifty Families" by Nancy Chambers Underwood. It is out of print, but available in some geneology libraries and rare book dealers like abebooks.com. What is your line of descent from Hugh and Elizabeth? I am descended from their daughter Mary Jane, who married David Thaddeus Doss. Bill Crider Notify Administrator about this message?
