Maybe a copy of the marriage record for him will give you his place of birth or his parents names.

Here's the date, county of his marriage and the license number.
********************************************************** ENRIGHT, JOHN & DILLON, MARGARET-1881-08-20--lic. # 00001764 -- County-ST. CLAIR
***********************************************************

In the 1900 St. Clair, IL census, his children list Illinois as their father's place of birth.
