Hi Rita,
Thanks for the informative reply!I am on ancestry.com.,if I can look up anything for you, let me know. Also, I found a great site, called genealogybank.com, it is not a free site, but well worth it.It has old newspapers from all over the USA, and adds more all of the time.I have been going to the dates of death for different ancestors (as opposed to just relying on the search engine), and I have been finding obituaries, usually withina few days of people dying.I have found two ancestral homelands in Ireland this way, for my Sullivans of Fermoy, County Cork, and my McGraths of Carrick-on-Suir, Tipperary. The Irish would often state their hometown in Ireland in these obituaries. Also, in one obit for my ancestor in New York, it said "Philadelphia and San Francisco papers please post", meaning that there were probably family members in those cities.I also found a death notice from 1858 in New York City for an uncle who died at age 3, and it mentioned his mother's brother, thus giving me her maiden name.I can check for you here also, if you wish.
Thanks again,
Gerard
