My great great grandfather was James Ennis (1810-1872 approx). He lived in Merasheen in Placentia Bay Newfoundland.I believe that either his father or his grandfather was named John.He married Catherine Movelle in 1835 in Burin. They had 9 children. My great grandfather Patrick Ennis came to Rhode Island in 1891 although he first came to the US in 1877 then went back and was married in Placentia in 1888.Does anyone out there know the whereabouts of descendants of his brothers Louis and Stanislaus. They were in New Bedford , MA.I have some descendants of Stanislaus, but none of Louis.
The Ennis family probably came from Ireland to Newfoundland around 1750. Certain for profit services will send you the coat of arms -a boars head. However remember that with the English ascendancy in Ireland around the time of Queen Elizabeth and the virtual disintegration of Catholic Irish power in 1645 and in 1691, there was no "Ennis nobility" or any kind of nobility at all in Ireland. Those emigrating to Newfoundland came from around Waterford and were probably poor.
I would like to hear from anyone from Newfoundland with ennis ancestors.
