I'd be delighted to see more about the Athelone connection of the Ennis connection and the origins. The earliest Ennis in America I have been able to find is William Ennis (Innis) who was born ca. 1612 and migrated from and English port in 1635 to Virginia. He and his wife Percis had seven children:William, Nathaniel, Samuel, and Cornelius and three daughters Frances, Percis, and Parthenia. The records of this Eastern Shore of Maryland family are available at the Research Center for Delmarva history and Culture at Salisbury State University in Salisbury, Md.Your anecdote about the early Ennis family is very intriguing!I don't know how my Ennis line ties in with yours. The first John Ennis in my line is from William's grandson Cornelius who married a Mary Bishop (daughter of John Bishop d. 1696) and named a son John after his wife's father. There are two later John Ennises in the eighteenth century on the Eastern Shore of Maryland in later generations of the family, one a prominent merchant.
