I have several William Ennis in the line I am researching from Nelson/Amherst Co's VA. However, none of them have an H for a middle initial. As far as we can tell, all of our Ennis family left those counties in the early 1800s. Where is Port Arthur? One son of the line moved to Bath Co, VA. He was Marshall Ennis, born in the 1790s. The first name of his wife was Polly, or possibly Mary. We have not been able to trace descendents of Marshall. Another son, John, moved to KY. Son, James moved to what is now Charleston WV, and the father of these boys, William and a fourth son, Sherod, moved to Fayette Co, WV. We know little about the father, William Ennis, born about 1760. We have been unable to trace parents or siblings. There was a John Innes in Amherst Co around the same time (late 1700s) who had several children, but we can find no connection to our line. We believe that our Ennis was originally Innes. However, who knows?
