A biography of William Ennis is included in "Progressive Men of the State of Montana". Parents: John and Mary (Stewart) Ennis. He was founder of the village of Ennis, MT. On 5 Aug 1861, William married Miss Katherine Shriver, born in Columbiana County, OH, daughter of John and Rachel (Summer) Shriver, natives of Maryland. Ennis children: Jennie W. (Mrs. Charles W. Chowning, Ennis, MT), William J.
On 18 Jun 1898, Virginia City, MT, William Ennis was shot in the left side by a neighbor, Martin Peel. Mr. Peel was led to commit the crime by believing a false statement that Mr. Ennis had made derrogatory remarks concerning him and his character. William Ennis died 4 July 1898.
