For others who may be researching this line as well (John ENNIS 1684-c1770), I thought I would pass along this information from -Supplement to Irish Families- by Edward MacLysaght (1964)p. 64-65. --name closely associated with Co. Kildare. As early as 1659 it was found frequently on the census. This has been one of the more definitive treatments of the name I have yet found. It provided some additional locations for future research. Interested in hearing from any ENNIS's of this line. Does anyone have any other "story" of the first immigrant? Is the "killing the officer/soldier" a story which appears in more than one line of the family? How accurate may we consider it? Has anyone done any research into the tax, census, etc. records of Westmeath for this family? Very interested in hearing from any in this line. Marilyn Hudson
