Hello Leon,
I saw your messages concerning the Ennis family in Wisconsin and I would like to run something by you.I have been searching for the parents of my John Early/Earley since the 1960's and today I may have stumbled onto something.....or I may be in for another crash.
My John Early/Earley was supposedly born in Cork or Kildare Counties of Ireland in about 1843/1844.He died in 1890 in Ludlow, Champaign, Illinois. He married Alice Elmira HOLMES and they have several children: Calista Anna; Julia Estella; Alice Emily; Cyrus John; Levina Rose; Mary Ethel; Raleigh Priest; Leslie Clark; JOSEPH ENNIS; and Charles William.John and Alice were married in neighboring Logan County, Illinois in 1868.
As you see, I capitalized the name of Joseph Ennis Early/Earley (by the way the family went by the name of Earley, although I have seen it used as Early on some records)
Back to Joseph Ennis....his son Joseph Ennis Earley Junior...stated to me that his father was named after an uncle or some relation.
In the 1860 census of Beloit, Rock, Wisconsin...I find the following family:
Joseph INNESS age 30 from Ireland
Jane age 27 from Ireland
Daniel age 3 born in Wisconsin
Julia 7 months born in Wisconsin
Julia Early age 54 born in Ireland
Patrick age 60 born in Ireland
John age 17 born in Ireland (THIS COULD BE MY JOHN EARLY)
Patrick age 23 born in Ireland
Subsequent censues and information supplied by others online show that the correct surname for Joseph INNESS is ENNIS... the same spelling tht my great uncle had for his name; Joseph Ennis Early/Earley.
I feel that I am on to something.I looked at the information on the Ancestry World Tree that Ancestry.com provides and someone sent in information on the family of Joseph Stanton Ennis and his wife and children. This person states that Joseph Stanton Ennis came from Cork County, Ireland. You state in your messages at this forum that his wife Jane Early was from Dublin.
Could you share with me your knowledge of this family...especially the Ennis surname and your knowledge of Jane Early and how she came to be from Dublin.
Over 40 years have passed since I started working on the Early/Earley surname and this is the first positive break I have had....
You may email me if you desire by clicking on my name above.
Thank you for your time.I look forward to hearing from you.
