Hi Sarah, Originally, the name was McGuinnes, later shortened to Guinnes, then various spellings of Innis, Ennis, Ennes. They were of Irish nationality, from Dublin, Westmeath Co., and from Leitrim County. Ennis is a common name in Ireland. In the 1700's A Sir John Ennis from Ireland sailed to America. He is my ancestor. I have extensive genealogy on his lineage. My grandmother's name was SARAH ELLEN Ennis. There are thousands of Ennises in America. Many have red hair, fair complexion. Some are singers, dancers, are artistic, and musicians. They are story-tellers, and sometimes part of it is true!
