My gg-grandmother's name was Nancy Jane Ennis, b. 1858 in MO. She married my gg-grandfather, Lewis Henry Smith in October 1878 in Christian Co, MO. Trying to locate some of her family. I found a Nancy J. Enis (notice spelling) living with a Josiah Alexander and his family on the 1860 Christian Co, MO census. There is listed a sister, Lydia Enis, born ca. 1855. Josiah evidently was married prior to the wife listed in this census. Wife listed is Elizabeth (?). I suppose she is the mother to Nancy and Lydia on this census. Elizabeth and Josiah Alexander then have a daughter of their own, Martha, born early in 1860. I have no parentage for my Nancy Jane Ennis. So, am trying to find out if the one in this census is mine. The only other Ennis's I've found in Christian Co, MO are a Mae Ennis married Lonnie Compton April 4, 1927 in Christian Co; Hildreth Ennis (female) married Iraddle Gordon on Dec. 24, 1926 in Christian Co, MO. And, Eliza Ennis that married J.H. Alexander in March 1872. Lydia A. Enis on the 1860 census married John Thompson on Dec. 10, 1872 in Christian Co, MO. Nancy J. Enis on the 1860 census married William Morris July 4, 1877 in Christian Co, MO. I realize I am really reaching with this next supposition - Could this Nancy J. (Enis) Morris's husband, William died, and then she married my Lewis Henry Smith in Oct. 1878 in Christian Co, MO? Anyone with any ENNIS ancestry in Christian Co, MO, I would be most interested to hear from you. Would like to be able to sort this all out, and hopefully find my Nancy J. Ennis's parents. Thanks in advance for anything helpful. Thanks, Sydney Phillips Norman, OK Notify Administrator about this message?
