A matter of curiousity: My brother-in-law was Melvin Franklin Enke from Missouri, somewhere southeast of Joplin or south of Springfield. He was born February 1922, was in the Army in WWII,and injured in the invasion of France. His parents were Horace Enke and Mae Cole. They left Missouri and moved to Santa Paula, California, sometime after Mel had finished highschool (about 1939/1940), and lived on the Limoneira Ranch (an orange and limon citrus ranch. They lived among German speaking people in Missouri since Mel understood considerable German. After the war, they visited relatives in Missouri quite a bit. Mel was a popular, well-known high school wrestler and went to State finals. Mr. Enke died first and he is buried in California, around Ventura or Oxnard area. Mrs Enke remarried (m.n. unknown)and she died in the 1990s (?) in Santa Paula and is buried there. Mel died here in Whitesboro, Texas, nursing home in 2009. His wife was Oma Lee Gilmore, whom he married while stationed at Camp Lockett, Campo, California, in the convalescent hospital for shell shock. She was working in the Red Cross. Mel was an only child, and they had no children. Do any of you Enke researchers recognize this family. Oma Lee Enke is in the nursing home, diagnosed with Alsheimers disease.Would like exchange to information or give to the Enke Genealogy as much as I can. Best Wishes, Leonard Gilmore Note: Many pictures of this family were donated to the Camp Lockett Museum and History Center, some very interesting...
