Johnathan Rocha - One English family researcher reports that Capt. Levin Nelson English (Sr) raised 7 orphaned childre. (Levin's second wife, when they married in 1851, was a widow with two todlers of her own. It is most probable that most of those orphans belonged to Levin's older brother and wife, Thomas H. English and Ailfair Cooper; both of whom died when their children were quite young. It is to be presumed that Thomas and Ailfair were the parents of the majority of the following children (oftentimes listed as children of Levin and his first wife, Mary Tucker. (1) Benjamin English b. 1814 in Kentucky (2) George Thomas English, b. 17 Sept. 1814, Kentucky (3) Nathan English, b. 1816, Kentucky (4) Nancy English, b. 20 sept. 1820 (5) Eleanor English, b. 23 Jan. 1829, Illinois (6) Greenup English, b. 28 Oct. 1836 In Iowa: He d. 21 Aug. 1874, aged 0 years, 3 months, 13 days. (7)- ? NOTE: the wide spacing of birth years, particularly between Nancy and Eleanor, 9 years; and Eleanor and Greenup, 7 years, which suggest at least one newborn death or late term miscarriage. ALSO the birth date, death date and age at death does not jive for Greenup; so which is right & which is wrong? Sincerely, Dick Grafton Notify Administrator about this message?
