All that I really have is family stories. My GGgrandfather was Andrew I. Engler. The storie was that his family came through Lousianna, and up the Mississippi, all getting seperated. My gg-grandfather ended up in Dubuque Co. Iowa where he married Margarete Loes in 1851. I have his other dates, but his origin is in question. He is supposed to have beenborn in Baden, Germany, but other researchers have not found any record of him there...and we cannot find names of parents or sibblings. There are stories - with names included - but nothing of fact. I really don't know where to go with this now.
Thanks for your input. Perhaps it's something for all of us to keep as a consideration. The Englers have often been known for changing their name - usually I've just heard of other spellings - and dropping the "r". Never anything as drastic a s the change from Brenner to Engler.
Thanks again - and please keep in touch
Melinda Engler
