I'm 95% certain that (y)our line came to the US before 1800.

Dora's father was William C. Engledow (~1833 - bet 1875-1880) and I believe that his grandfather was William R. Engledow, b. ~1800 in Virginia -- I lack conclusive proof of the relationship between the Williams, though circumstantial evidence points me in that direction.

I have a hunch that William R. was the grandson of a William Engledow who, the story goes, came to the US in 1768 under less than glorious circumstances. No real proof or evidence there, just mindless speculation.
