Bettie Engledow m J. D. McCarty 18 oct 1885 in Van Zandt County.
She is Bettie not Betty... spelled that way in both the census and marriage records.
Most of my Bettie's are Elizabeths.
I do not know her husband... she is listed as a widow age 32 b Virginia in the 1880 census.
There are 5 children with her:
Creed, age 10 b in Texas
Bruce age 9 b in Texas
Eugenia age 7 b Tx
Giles age 5 b in Texas
Author age age 2 b in Tx
Also with her is her mother in law... Elvira Engledow age 68 widow b in Tn.
Also with her is Georgia Rosenbaum listed as her sister, (not her sister in law..) age 19 and single.... My guess is that Bettie's maiden name is Rosenbaum. I believe their mother is Maria or Mary F..... she married Richard Wells in 1868. I also believe their father is G. Rosenbaum who died 1862-1868.
Rosenbaum's have been in Van Zandt since before 1860
If you find the family group of Bettie and Georgia I would appreciate it if you could let me know.
I am also interested in finding info on Benjamin Franklin McCarty b 1847 in Tippah Ms, although his parents Hugh McCarty and Mary Macon married in Hardeman County, Tn.
Frank McCarty was witness to a gunfight in 1870 in Van Zandt that I am researching.
