Ferdinando NEW, of Worcestershire, England

Ferdinando NEW, of Worcestershire, England.

A search of the I.G.I. (www.familysearch.com) returns 83 entries for England. All this, and a bit more, boils down to (perhaps) 4 individuals who bore this name (in perhaps 4 successive generations). The only ones in England, ever:

Ferdinando NEW, ch. 02 Feb 1683/4 at Earls Croome, son of Thomas NEW and Ann Lode / Load.
Ferdinando married (1) Mary Pewtrice, widow, 20 Feb 1704 (she died 21 Jan 1721/2),
                      (2) Elizabeth Pullen, mar. licence 03 July 1724,
                     and perhaps (3) Sarah …..
Ferdinando had 10 children with Mary, and another 2 with Elizabeth.
Ferdinando was buried 25 Aug 1734 at Earls Croome, Worcs.

Ferdinando NEW, perhaps also called Nando NEW, son of Ferdinando NEW and Mary Pullen above, ch. 17 Dec 1712. He died 20 Oct 1786.
Ferdinando married Mary Richards, mar. licence 11 Sep 1735. They had 3 children ch. at Upton upon Severn, Worcs., and perhaps a 4th child, another Ferdinando NEW, whose mother was named in error as Eliz. instead of Mary.

Ferdinando NEW, ch. 17 Dec 1745 at Upton upon Severn, parents recorded as Ferdinando NEW and Eliz. Perhaps the latter should be Mary (see above).

Ferdinando NEW married Eliz. HICKS, 1779 at Adderbury, Oxfordshire. Perhaps he is the Ferdinando NEW b.1745 at Upton upon Severn, above.

Two children:
Elizabeth, ch. 01 Oct 1786                            ) both at Scots Lane Independent,
Ferdinando NEW, 26 June 1788, ch. 16 July 1788       ) Salisbury, Wiltshire,
their parents were Ferdinando NEW & Eliz. Perhaps the two who married at Adderbury in 1779.

and:

John Ferdinando NEW, ch. 27 Oct 1826 at Upton upon Severn, son of Moses NEW and Jane Brewer.

The first of these, Ferdinando NEW married to Mary Pewtrice, is ancestral (in the 7th generation) in a NEW family (of Ripple, Earls Croome and Upton upon Severn) which culminated in the 11th generation when two sisters, Sarah NEW who married (1) Richard NEATE and (2) William PASSEY, and Ann NEW who married John PASSEY (the two PASSEYs were brothers). The two families migrated to America, were Mormons and eventually settled at Bear Lake, Idaho. They left descendants.

Hence the huge numbers of entries for Ferdinando NEW on the I.G.I. – repetitions, mistakes, ….

This message (about Ferdinando NEWs) is one of two messages concerning two NEW families in Worcestershire. The two families are the NEW family of Ripple, etc., mentioned above and a NEW family of Worcester, a pedigree chart for which was published in P.P.New’s book “Notes of English Families of the Name of New” in 1886. The second message is about the name Moses NEW and concerns the NEW family of Worcester.

John Ferdinando NEW and his parents Moses NEW and Jane Brewer belong to the NEW family of Worcester, and NOT to the NEW family of Ripple, etc., as the Mormons have asserted.

**************************************

Finally, a story. The 1st generation of the NEW family of Ripple, etc., was William NEWE b.c.1522-d.1579 of St. Lawrence, Evesham, Worcs., England (supposedly my ancestor, I was born and bred in Evesham). Three years or so ago, a couple of gentlemen in suits, one more elderly than the other (a father and son?), Mormon missionaries probably, knocked on the door of an elderly widow living in or near Evesham. They were invited in and on discovering that the elderly lady was surnamed New exclaimed that they were descended from the NEWs of Evesham, and were from Idaho. Her (husband’s) nephew ‘phoned me to ask if we knew any NEWs of Idaho? Indeed we do ……

The purpose of this message (these messages) is to place on record something now known about the two NEW families, of Ripple and of Worcester. I think that they are connected somehow. The earliest one named in the Worcester family is Henry NEW who married to Frances Hill in 1759. This places him between generations 9 and 10 of the Ripple NEW family. Y-DNA tests on male-line representatives of each family would establish a connection if they matched, and perhaps a match with either the NEW family of Evesham or the NEW family of Defford, who don’t match each other. Such representatives are needed.
