Afternoon Pheobe

Checking the "H Ratchford Death in the Military Records on Find My Past, his First Name is given as "Harry".

RATCHFORD       HARRY                     1915       British nationals armed forces deaths 1796-2005       Great Britain

At present, the only likely candidate appears to be this entry in the 1881 UK Census on FMP-

Household Members
First name(s)       Last name       Relationship       Marital condition       Gender       Age       Birth year       Occupation       Birth place
John       Ratchford       Head       Married       Male       35       1846       Herring Curer (Fish)       Wolverhampton, Staffordshire       Image Transcription
Catherine       Ratchford       Wife       Married       Female       29       1852       Spoon Polisher       Birmingham, Warwickshire       Image Transcription
Mary       Ratchford       Daughter       Single       Female       9       1872       Scholar       Birmingham, Warwickshire       Image Transcription
James       Ratchford       Son       Single       Male       7       1874       Scholar       Birmingham, Warwickshire       Image Transcription
John       Ratchford       Son       Single       Male       5       1876       Scholar       Birmingham, Warwickshire       Image Transcription

Henry       Ratchford       Son       Single       Male       3       1878       -       Birmingham, Warwickshire       Image Transcription

William       Ratchford       Son       Single       Male       0       1881       -       Birmingham, Warwickshire       Image Transcription
Catherine       Kennedy       Boarder Lodger       Single       Female       23       1858       Spoon Polisher       London, London, Middlesex       Image Transcription

Again, this MAY or may NOT be "the Harry" in the 1911 Census-

Harry       Ratchford       Head       Married       Male       32       1879       Billposting       Birmingham CB       Image Transcription
Rose       Ratchford       Wife       Married       Female       26       1885       Nail Trade Feeder       Birmingham CB       Image Transcription
Catherine       Gallagher       Mother In Law       Widow       Female       58       1853       Domestic Duties       Birmingham CB       Image Transcription

This may be Rose's Death-

RATCHFORD       ROSE A T       1886       1944       1944       England & Wales deaths 1837-2007       Basford, Nottinghamshire, England

This may be Rose's Birth-

GALLACHER       ROSE ANNA       1885              1885       England & Wales births 1837-2006       Middlesbrough, Yorkshire, England

This looks more hopeful as the Marriage of that Harry and Rose (Collins)-

RATCHFORD       HARRY                     1906       England & Wales marriages 1837-2008       Birmingham, Warwickshire,

One definite child of that Marriage-

RATCHFORD       JOSEPH H       1913              1913       England & Wales births 1837-2006       Birmingham, Warwickshire, England

Unfortunately, the Mother's Maiden (or previous) Surname was not recorded in the SEARCH INDEXES until July 1911 onwards.

But the lack of subsequent Births suggests that this MAY be the right family.

Unfortunately, the recently "updated and improved Search facilities" on FMP now make it difficult to impossible to find out who was living in a specific street, where-as the earlier version did so and very easily!

there is a fair chance that Harry's Next of Kin may be either of his apparent brothers, James and John, rather than his father.

I have noted this both from my genealogical interests; and away back in the 1950s, when serving with the RAF.

Just found this-

It may be worth following up on this-
